Giveaways and Goodies #2

Happy Sunday!  We're back again for more giveaways and goodies that I've found while reading through the various blogs that I love to read.  For book giveaways, you can check the list that I posted on my book blog, Views from the Reader Side.  Here, I'm listing giveaways that my fellow bloggers are listing for things other than books.

First, let me point you toward The Steady Hand's List of Giveaways and The Steady Hand's List of Rafflecopter Giveaways.  She has Rafflecopter link-ups that she posts.  Anyone with a giveaway is welcome to add their own link (if you have a giveaway on Rafflecopter, list it on the second link, all others on the first), so you'll find some great things there that you may want to put your name into the hat.

Those are all the giveaways that I have for this week.  If you have a giveaway you'd like to see listed here, please e-mail me at tpisces at gmail dot com and I'll be happy to add it next week!

Now for some of the goodies that I've found while looking around.  I've been on my geek kick, so quite a few will have a geeky bent.

Over at GeekDad, I've found lots of fun stuff to share.  They pointed their readers to two games to watch out for on Kickstarter. Island Fortress is ending today (Sunday, January 15) but it has been funded.  If you want to get in on the goodies, head over quickly to check it out.  The other game is Conquest Tactics, a CCG that still has three weeks left on Kickstarter.  If geeky games are you style, go check them out.

At GeekMom, I found one of the few cookbooks a non-cooking geek like myself might pick up - Molly Weasley's Comfort Cooking.  What proper geek girl wouldn't want this one?

Through GeekDad, I also found out about an after-school program that needs our help. The Game Loft in Belfast, Maine, helps teens realize their full potential through gaming.  The program started by a gaming couple (who happened to own a game shop) in 1998.  They opened the community center in the attic of their store and have been helping teens ever since.  In 2009, it was purchased by a social services organization, but funding has been cut (the organization has been hit hard financially) and The Game Loft is in danger of closing.  You can read the full story at the link above, along with links for helping if you want.

Abebooks posted about a book from 1928 in which the author tries to catalog every possible plot.  The book is called Plotto and the article is an interesting read.

I'm sure any of my readers that consider themselves gaming geeks probably already heard about this, but I'm going to pass it along for those who may not have. Wizards of the Coast is asking for fan input for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition (the link is through Tor).  After the uproar by many over D&D 4th ed, I'm glad to hear that WotC is finally taking the fans into account.

I love optical illusions, and those of the body art variety impress me beyond belief.  I regularly read Mighty Optical Illusions, and I had to share the post they have showing Craig Tracy's body art.  It took awhile for me to find the people in some of this artwork.  It's truly amazing.

That's all for this week.  Please leave me feedback on this feature.  Do you like it?  Hate it?  Think it's a great bit of fun or something that is a waste of my time?  While I do write my blog for me, I share these things for you.  After all, I've already read them and entered the giveaways that I wanted.
